Nearly 350,000 Sky Subscribers Could Switch to Freeview HD, Research Hints

A latest research has suggested that about 350,000 Sky+ HD subscribers could switch to digital terrestrial television, once Freeview HD hits markets.

As has been revealed in a YouGov survey of as many as 2,063 adults, commissioned by Freeview, 17% of Sky subscribers, currently using the Sky+ HD service, said that they were "likely" to shift their main set to Freeview HD, as soon as it become freely available.

Last month, it was revealed that more than 10 million homes across UK presently have Freeview on their main TV sets, with 18.2 million sets in all receiving the service.

On December 02, the Freeview HD went technically live, and it is expected to become commercially available within the coming 6 weeks. The service would bring to the market a range of set top boxes, PVRs and IDTVs.

The YouGov survey revealed that 18% of all British homes still receiving analogue television services had every intention of switching to Freeview HD, and only about 12% said that they would stick to Virgin Media.
