Reports from the company have confirmed that the giant Voice over IP firm Skype is all set to enable video calls for 720p High Definition displays, so that clearer imaging can be made available to users when they make video calls.
As per specifications shared by Skype, the latest version of Skype for Window will be able to deliver "720p HD video at 1280x720 resolutions at up to 30 frames per second".
In order to make the most of the new and improved service, users will need a high speed broadband connection, in addition to a HD webcam and a computer with a 1.8 GHz or greater dual core processor. Also, users will need to download the new Skype 4.2 Beta for Windows.
"We can bring our users even closer to the ones they love through an even richer, more meaningful video calling experience", said Skype CEO Josh Silverman.
High Definition webcams are all set to ship, starting this year, from the house of various popular manufacturers like faceVision, which will start shipping out its webcams in February, priced at $99 with a microscope. Also, Store Solutions is launching two HD encoding webcams for $120 and $140 and these will be available starting March.
