Contraceptive implants were injected in girls as young as 13 and this was done without their parents knowing about this.
In an attempt to bring down underage pregnancies in a city, the controversial procedure was carried out on pupils.
Reports state that in about nine secondary schools, teenagers had taken part in this scheme but the percentage of such girls is not known.
Some parents who do not know anything about this happening to their children have shown anger and outrage after this came to light. Girls have got a 4cm device which is implanted under the skin.
Norman Wells, of the Family Education Trust, blasted, "Parents send their children to school to receive a good education, not to be undermined by health workers who give their children contraceptives behind their backs. The last thing health authorities should be doing is fuelling the flames of promiscuity."
NHS experts in Southampton have given these implants to girls. Parents who did not know anything about this were reported to check their child's arm for this device to figure out if this happened to their daughter as well.
