Stem cell surgery restores sight for Katie Piper

Stem cell surgery restores sight for Katie PiperStem cell surgery has restored sight for a former model and television presenter who following an acid attack was left partially blind in one eye.

The attack happened for 29-year-old Katie Piper in 2008 and this made her suffer third degree burns and had to have her face reconstructed after the attack. She has stated that Stefan Sylvester who is 22 years old was planted by her spurned ex-boyfriend Daniel Lynch, 35, to carry out the attack.

Her left eye faced major damage and she was scarred for life after this incident.

Plastic surgeries have been conducted on her now and that too many to remould the skin around her eyes. For stretching her scar tissue, Katie has to wear a mask for 23 hours every day.

Doctors at the Queen Victoria hospital in East Grinstead, West Sussex, have been able to restore her sight as they used eye tissue from the cornea of an anonymous male donor.

Katie said, "It has been an amazing feeling. It wasn't like I took the bandage off and my sight came back like that, it happened gradually."
