Paula Deen to donate a part of her earnings to ADA

Paula Deen to donate a part of her earnings to ADACelebrity chef Paula Deen, celebrity TV chef who aggressively promoted her butter-heavy Southern cooking over the past years, recently pledged to donate a fraction of her earnings from a well-paid endorsement deal with a diabetes drug-maker Novo Nordisk to the American Diabetes Association (ADA).

Deen revealed that she had been signed as the face of a new diabetes health initiative funded by Novo Nordisk, which sells non-insulin injectable medication Victoza.

Deen, the author of several cookbooks, admitted on Tuesday that she had been suffering from Type 2 diabetes for around three years. It may be noted here that she aggressively promoted high-fat, high-sugar recipes during the same time.

Donna Shaft, who has Type 2 diabetes for around two decades, said, ““It is hypocritical [for Deen] to have continued to very publicly promote entirely unhealthy food choices so vital to the management of diabetes.”

During ABC's food chat show called "The Chew", Deen said that she ahd her two sons were working with Novo Nordisk’s ‘Diabetes in a New Light campaign’ because they, like everybody else, had to work.

However, Deen neither revealed the worth of her endorsement deal with Novo Nordisk nor she disclosed how much she would donate to non-profit ADA.
