Google recruits the Muppets for promoting Google+ Hangouts

Google recruits the Muppets for promoting Google+ HangoutsAfter having recruited Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber to promote its Chrome browser, Google has now plunged headlong into the TV advertising arena by recruiting the Muppets for promoting Google+ Hangouts on the TV.

The Internet search giant's recruitment of the Muppets - a lovable icon for several Gen X-ers as well as the stars of a new film - is aimed at attracting social network aficionados to Google+ Hangouts; with the advertising effort to include spots like Saturday Night Live on NBC; Glee on Fox and the World Series.

Going by the indications from Google, the company is attempting to make its Google+ feature - which is already witnessing some growth of late - emerge as a social network for grownups, or those grownup people who want to form circles for other grownups like customers, partners, colleagues, and clients.

Even though family and friends will also be included in other circles, the `grownups' angle will apparently be one of the key selling points for Google+ as it takes on the popular Facebook social network.

The ad which Google is running for the Google+ Hangouts shows that Muppets using Google+ for an spur-of-the-moment band session, rocking out to a cover of the Queen/David Bowie classic hit, "Under Pressure," by way of the power of a Google+ hangout --- thereby creating a scenario in which "famously good friends get together in a Google+ Hangout"!
