Samsung shares details about ICS-upgradeable devices

Samsung shares details about ICS-upgradeable devicesWith the 4.0 `Ice Cream Sandwich' (ICS) version of Google's increasingly popular Android operating system having come aboard the Samsung Galaxy Nexus handset, it has been revealed in a recent announcement by Samsung that its Galaxy SII and Galaxy Tab will also be upgraded to the latest Android iteration.

According to the details shared by Samsung, the devices which are upgradeable to the Android ICS include Galaxy S II; Galaxy S II LTE; Galaxy Note; Galaxy Tab 10.1; Galaxy Tab 8.9; Galaxy Tab 7.7; and Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus. While all the most recent models will be upgraded to the ICS, the specific release dates of the updates for the different devices will be announced later.

Samsung said that separate announcements will be made about the details of OS updates schedule for the ICS-upgradeable devices in different markets, depending on the situation in the market as well as the requirements of the carriers.

The ICS-upgrade will be a noteworthy move for Samsung's hot-selling Galaxy line of devices, especially given the fact that even though Samsung's blockbuster Galaxy SII line of handsets still run the Android 2.3 `Gingerbread' version.

Though Samsung has yet to specify the exact time that it will take to upgrade the mentioned devices to the Android ICS version, the precedence that the company has set earlier can apparently be taken as an indication that the process might take months --- as did the updating of the Samsung Captivate, Samsung Fascinate and Samsung Epic 4G to Android 2.2 `Froyo' version!
