CEA launches first educational brochure on estate agency work

CEA launches first educational brochure on estate agency work The Council for Estate Agencies (CEA), the real estate industry regulatory, recently launched its first educational brochure on estate agency work.

The educational brochure, titled Consumer Tips for Engaging a Real Estate Salesperson, aims to provide consumers with essential practical information when dealing with property agents.

It underlines key responsibilities of real estate agents and salespersons. It provides information ranging from how to identify a registered property agent to how an agent should handle transaction money.

At one point, the broacher states that if a property agent represents both the buyer and seller, and takes commission from both parties, he/she commits an offence. It also prohibits practices such as holding of transaction monies by estate agents.

Chionh Chye Khye, executive director at CEA, said that consumers should also do their part by knowing what to do and what not to do.

Speaking on the topic, Khye added, "This would help them avoid potential problems and have a more satisfying experience when working with salespersons."

The educational brochure can be had from CEA's office for free. It is also available to download at CEA's official website.
