Google’s Eric Schmidt envisions Google TV on majority of new TVs by next summer

Google’s Eric Schmidt envisions Google TV on majority of new TVs by next summer In his Wednesday speech at the LeWeb conference in France, Google's Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt - who is famous for making very high-sounding predictions - spoke about his company's big plans for Google TV, saying that he envisions the product to be embedded in the majority of new TVs which will hit the markets in summer next year.

Schmidt's onstage statement that "by the summer of 2012, the majority of the televisions you see in stores will have Google TV embedded in it," marks highly optimistic projections for the Google TV product which is yet to gain any substantial ground in the market.

The optimistic claims which Schmidt made about Google TV are a clear contradiction of the product's present position in the market --- more so as along with the faltering sales figures reported for Google TV, it is also facing increasing rivalry in the television entertainment industry, most significantly from Apple.

Other than voicing his upbeat predictions for Google TV, Schmidt - in response to queries about the comparative quality of the Android apps vis-a-vis the iOS apps - said that it was just a matter of time when the Android Market will surpass the Apple App Store.

Further adding that Android was likely to emerge as the choicest mobile platform for app developers in the near future, Schmidt said that, in his opinion, the coming six-month period will witness a market transition away from iPhone-centric development; as well as the mobile app developers' prioritizing of the Android platform over Apple's iOS.
