Report: VW to increase its global staff by 10% next yearAccording to a recent report in German paper Bild am Sonntag, the global staff of Europe’s leading automaker Volkswagen (VW) will be increased by more than 10 percent next year.

Reporting that the global staff numbers at VW were 449,000 at present, the carmaker’s Chief Executive Martin Winterkorn told Bild am Sonntag that, by the end of 2012, the company’s global staff could be “around 500,000.”

Winterkorn told the newspaper that the euro is imperative for Germany to become increasingly more competitive on a global scale, Winterkorn said that the VW workforce will be increased by 51,000 to 500,000 by next year end.

The Bild am Sonntag report also revealed that, other than VW, the other German automakers that intend creating new jobs include VW’s Audi unit and sport-car maker Porsche SE which is under the joint control of Porsche SE and VW.

Going by the details shared by Matthias Mueller, the CEO of Porsche Automobil Holding SE, it is likely that the headcount at the automaker may witness a near 10 percent increase in its headcount; thereby marking the creation of
1,200 new jobs. However, Mueller refrained from giving any timeline for the expected rise in staff numbers.

Meanwhile, as per the newspaper report, Rupert Stadler – Chief Executive of Audi – said that the company intends hiring 10,000 new employees by 2020, according to the newspaper.
