Faulty Network Accountable for System Failure in OCBC

It has been revealed, after a lot of speculation, that the reason for the failure of OCBC systems was a faulty networking device. It was on the 13th of September that the system outage had left the many customers of the bank crippled and halted.

It was revealed by David Conner, the Chief executive of the banking firm, that after reviewing various causes of failure, it was found that a faulty network device was the reason behind the mayhem that had taken place.

"This device acted in combination with a parameter setting in the main banking system to trigger a suspension of the system's network communications", he said. He further added that the ATM services, branches and all networks of the firm were affected for a long time due to the same.

It is one of the largest banks in the area, with as many as 600 ATMs and 56 branches in the island. There was a long time taken deliberately for finding out the fault that had occurred and time was taken in rectifying the same. Mr. Conner said this was done on purpose, so as to ensure total rectification of errors.
