Senators and MP’s to Stand Shoulder to Shoulder with the Affected Workers

It was reported that the Federal Government is facing pressure over the Qantas's plans to cut the 1000 jobs and increasing the offshore operations. Qantas Chief Executive, Alan Joyce has reported that the job cuts were necessary to build the international arm of the airline for the long period of time.

He has rejected that the union has claimed that the job cuts could reach 6000. Some senators and MPs have claimed that they would support and stand from shoulder to shoulder with affected workers.

Independent Senator, Nick Xenophon has revealed that he would be going to introduce a Bill for maintaining the Australian crew rates on the carrier's international flights whereas the Financial analysts have predicted that the Qantas's five-year survival strategy would fall apart once the unions, Senator Xenophon or MPs have succeeded pressuring the Government to force the airline to pay higher wages in Asia.

The Australian International Pilots Association representative Captain, Barry Jackson said: "Qantas has made this decision to offshore and continue to offshore and it won't be 150 pilots, it'll probably be about 5,000 staff of Qantas that could lose their jobs if this is allowed to continue."

Transport Workers Union spokesperson, Tony Sheldon has told that the losses would be even greater because every aviation industry job mainly affects six-and-a-half jobs in the wider economy.
