Japan Lawmakers Accuses Authorities for Food Security Negligence

Many consumers and lawmakers complained that Japanese government had not paid much attention to the food safety measures because till now they have not ruled out the possibility of beef contaminated exportation.

After finding 637 cattle had been were supplied with the hay -containing radioactive cesium, the government had implemented a ban on beef exportation from areas near Fukushima nuclear plant Supermarkets. The ban was implemented, after Fukushima was ruined with the earthquake and Tsunami.

Yuichi Imasaki, Deputy Director of the farm ministry’s meat and egg division said, “We cannot completely rule out the prospect that the contaminated beef was also sold abroad as the chances are very low”.

Meanwhile, many hotels and restaurants in the region, including Shangri-La Asia’s luxury chain, from their set of offered food choices, had also plunged the Japan sea food, as a result of which ,the customers would no longer be served with Japanese seafood.

Chris Busby, a visiting professor at the University of Ulster’s school of biomedical sciences and scientific secretary of the European Committee on Radiation Risk, also quoted that in order to measure the level of contamination done in the farming process; a self-governing investigation would be done.

In the meantime, many radiation levels investigations had already been done in the areas of north of Tokyo, including other areas.
