On Tuesday Singapore Airlines Ltd. (C6L. SG) has revealed plans for a wide-ranging alliance with Virgin Australia Ltd. (VBA. AU). It is expected that this would refocus its network in the region and increase pressure on Qantas Airways Ltd. (QAN. AU).
Virgin Australia handles domestic flights and services to New Zealand as well as the U. S. west coast. And now SIA is would make its entry through an agreement which would include coordinated schedules, code sharing and marketing ties.
This planned deal is the latest in a flurry by Virgin Australia. Earlier this was called as Virgin Blue Holdings.
And recently a landmark agreement has been signed by Singapore Airlines and Virgin Australia group of airlines. This agreement will enable them to establish a long-term alliance.
In this agreement the both airlines have agreed to codeshare each other's international and domestic flights. They have also proposed the reciprocal frequent flyer programme benefits and lounge access.
Moreover they will also manage schedules between Singapore and Australia along with the smooth connection and engage in joint sales, marketing and distribution activities.
