Flying to Singapore will become more cheaper than travelling to Mumbai or Delhi or Bangalore because Singapore airlines is trying to find out ways to introduce low cost module and a Kolkata-connection is very much on the cards.
This is a collective decision taken at the board meeting at the airline headquarters, said by Singapore Airlines chief executive Goh Choon Phong. He also said that its primary market will remain in its key destinations in South-East Asia but at present they are focusing on three cities in India including Kolkata.
Singapore Airlines is considering low cost flight between Kolkata and Singapore because other LCCs like Air Asia and China Eastern are seeing steady loss of passengers and Indian LCC, Air India Express operates to Singapore four days in a week.
An aviation industry expert said that to attract budget tourists to Singapore LCC carrier is critical.
Last year in September, Singapore Airlines have trim its six days a week flight to four days a week and also changed the aircraft from Boeing 777-200 aircraft with an Airbus 330 aircraft with reduction in economy class seats from 293 to 255.
