Korean Police had to finally intervene to bring an end to the week-long protest in the main factory of Yoosung Enterprises manufacturing engine pistons based in Asan in the southern western part of the country.
The prolonged strike had brought the plant’s operation to a pause resulting in a grave threat to the automotive industry in the country with the major automobile manufacturers of the nation like Kia and Hyundai declaring that they have had to bear a damage worth about W21.6 billion during the period of this strike.
The strike started on Wednesday last week with about 500 employees participating in the sit-in strike and ended this Tuesday with the intervention by about 2,500 police officers.
At the same time the probability of a similar strike again in the near future is still lurking and keeping this in view, Kang Chul-koo of the reputation of Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association has remarked that to save the nation’s automobile industry from crumbling under such obstacles caused. This was due to the halt in one factory manufacturing just one of the key parts, the manufacturers should now think of branch out their providers of key parts.
