On Wednesday, a court in East China sentences as many as 11 accused for up-to 3 years for their active involvement in online gaming scams which reportedly helped them net nearly 140,000 Dollars, as has been confirmed by official information shared.
Malicious Trojan horse viruses were written by Lu Yizhong and Zeng Yifu, which helped them steal 5.3 million usernames and passwords from various online gamers, and these were then used for "illegal gains".
Also, defendants Yan Renhai, his girlfriend Chen Huiting, and other accomplices, either sold or used the viruses to steal online credits.
The sentence was passed at the Gulou District People's Court in Jiangsu Province, and it has been shared that in all, Lu and Zeng earned a total of 646,000 Yuan (95,000 Dollars) through the scam. Yan and Chen, on the other hand, bagged a whopping 310,000 Yuan as well.
While Lu has been sentenced to 3 years in captivity, Zeng has been slapped with a service time of 2-and-a-half years; the other accused, however, have received less jail time. A fine of 833,000 Yuan has also been slapped on the 11 scammers taken into custody.
No details on how the monetary or any other gains were made have been shared.
