China's retail sales rose 16.5%

China's retail sales rose 16.5%National Bureau of Statistics reported that China’s retail sales in first four months of 2011 recorded an increase of 16.5% year-on-year basis taking the figures to 5.66 trillion yuan. In April only, China recorded retail sales 1.36 trillion yuan which is up by 17.1%.

In case of large scale enterprises, retail sales rose 23.4 percent to 641.8 billion yuan in the month of April, in rural areas retail sales rose 16.3 percent to 180.3 billion yuan and in urban areas retail sales rose 17.3% to 1.18 trillion yuan.

Talking about catering sector which contributed an increase of 16.7% in revenues to 149.7 billion yuan whereas, commodity sector rose 17.2% to 1.22 trillion yuan.

The Central Bank reported on Wednesday that there was rise in new loans issued by China’s bank in the month of April as compared to previous month because monetary policy was constantly tightened by regulators to control the inflation.

In the month of March, national bank reported new loans at 679.4 billion yuan while April posted an increase in new loans to 739.6 billion yuan ($113.8 billion) said by the People's Bank of China in a statement.

It was earlier anticipated by Dow Jones Newswires that new loans will raise to 725 billion yuan but it has slightly crossed the expectations. At the end of April, M2 also raise by 15.3% as M2 being the broadest measure of money supply includes cash in circulation and money held in bank accounts.
