Tharman says IMF role reflective of Singapore's rise on the world stage  On Friday Finance Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam has said that he has been following the path of Senior Minister S Jayakumar. He said this after the announcement of retirement of Prof Jayakumar from politics on Thursday.

Mr. Tharman has stated that having the interaction with the 71-year-old experienced person he has learnt very much from him. He has also succeeded him as chairman of the self-help group SINDA.

He has supposed that Prof Jayakumar will not give up from the interaction in the Indian community. According to Mr. Tharman, the veteran has the natural style of leadership, he takes his decision calmly rather than taking wrong judgments or pronouncements. Moreover, he is worth listening because whatever he says has a meaning and devoid of any fault.

In recent times Mr. Tharman has been appointed to direct the International Monetary Fund's policy steering committee.

And after the next IMF meeting, he will make announcement before that he will remain silent. The meeting will be held in the coming month of April.
