Advertising Privacy Tool Launched by Yahoo

On Monday, Yahoo launched an advertising privacy tool for all its users, which can help them gain more information about how their own data can be used for targeted ads. According to a post on Yahoo's official blog, the firm's Ad Internets Manager will "show users what interests we think they have, and also let them edit and change those interests to reflect the most up–to-date information".

Through the tool, users can choose to be completely out of target ads. In the center of the tool's page is a box that informs the users that "Interest-based Ads: Are currently on", equipped with a button which says "opt out". When users click that button, they will let Yahoo know that targeted ads based on their online activity are not to be served.

"With the introduction of Ad Interest Manager, users can not only get a better understanding of how interest-based advertising works, but they can also communicate better with Yahoo and our advertisers about what most interests them", the company explained.

For now, the tool has only been unveiled for users across US, and will be available for European users in the coming weeks. With time, users will also be able to add categories of interests that might have been missed by Yahoo.
