Launch of the first satellite in Singapore

pslvSingapore is all set to witness the launch of its first satellite, finally after a very long delay.

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) will be launching it into the orbit next month. It will be launched with the help of Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV).

The satellite is named X-Sat, was initially scheduled for a launch, 3 years ago in 2007. The cost has overrun by several times since then causing problems for the government as well as the satellite launchers. The cost of the satellite is now said to have crossed S$40 million against its original cost of S$10 million.

There has been no explanation given by the ISRO team, and the delay in presenting reports is not connected with the failure of the Geostationary Satellite Launch Vehicle on 25 December.

PSLV, Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle will be responsible for the launch of X-Sat, and it has an experience of launching 38 of its 40 satellites since 1993. A review of its geosynchronous launch vehicle (GSLV) program has also commenced before the launch of any future satellite.
