One of the very hot issues in the current business markets and the corporate world that has batted eyelids of the investors of these companies is the Cairn- Vedanta deal.
The tussle began when ONGC started claiming that it had pre emptive rights over the Rajasthan fields of Cairn.
However, the petroleum ministry doesn’t buy that point and is seeking a legal opinion on that as well as the 60 percent stake of Vedanta in the deal. On Friday ONGC reportedly denied making any further contributions n the field unless the outstanding issues find a common ground.
This high profile USD 9.6 billion deal is looking a wobbly as it is yet to get its due approvals from the connected parties that include Indian government, Vedanta management and of course ONGC.
Indian government officials however have raised certain issues on the technical front that have involvement of oil and gas fields, and have already some worries about Vedanta resources’ ability to manage the field which can potentially pump twice the barrels it is pumping now at 125,000 barrels.
