Giant mobile devices manufacturer Nokia has recently shared its plans of slapping as many as 11 LCD makers and their American units with a lawsuit alleging collusion and price fixing. With the lawsuit, the Finland based firm is hoping to win damages to efficiently recover the money it overpaid to various companies for LCD displays for many of its handset models.
The legal battle Nokia has started is directed against huge electronics manufacturers including Seiko Epson, Hitachi, LG Display, Philips, Samsung, Sharp and Toshiba. Although no specification about the amount of damages the company is seeking has been made, it has been confirmed that the alleged collusion covers a full decade from 1996 to 2006. During these 10 years, Nokia claims that it had paid inflated prices for the LCD displays.
"When certain companies and management employees have already admitted participating in, or are indicted for, global price-fixing cartels involving components Nokia has purchased, it is reasonable for Nokia to seek redress", the company said in an official statement.
The one good thing that might come as a result of the development is that prices of Nokia manufactured handsets might be lowered, as the company seeks damages because it actually paid more for the LCD displays.
Recently, Nokia also filed a lawsuit against Apple alleging that the iPhone infringes on various patents held by the Finnish firm.
