According to research firm, comScore, the smartphones based on Google's Android platform are narrowing the gap in terms of market share with Apple iPhone, in the US.
comScore has calculated market share based on a three-month average of smartphone subscribers as of October. Android based devices gained 6.5 percentage points from the previous three months for a total share of 23.5 percent compared to just 0.8 of a point to 24.6 percent for Apple iPhone.
Canadian firm, Research in Motion remained on the top but its share dropped 3.5 percentage points to 35.8 percent and Microsoft's share declined 2.1 points to 9.7 percent while HP palm share declined 1 point to 3.9 percent.
The research firm pointed out that even as most platforms lost market share, they added new subscribers as the smartphone market continues to grow. The total US smartphone market jumped 14 percent over the three-month period to 60.7 million.
