A report showed that Gap has used Apple's iPod-based POS system at a few of its Old Navy stores. But it is pointed out that the software used by Apple to drive its EasyPay device is an iOS app, which is specially designed to work with Oracle 360Commerce backend retail software. The software does is of no use to others because of its specific design however retail experience offered by Apple's retail stores and delivered by the iPod touch has attracted a lot of attention form other retailers.
Global Bay CEO Sandeep Bhanote said that his company has worked with Apple's iOS team to develop a POS solution for Guess Jeans with custom backing hardware for the iPod Touch. The custom backing, known as Linea Pro is made by Infinite Peripherals. Linea Pro has a rechargeable battery pack with both a bank card swipe reader and a standard barcode reader.
