American space agency, NASA has announced a press conference to be held on Thursday to discuss "an astrobiology finding", which will impact the search for extraterrestrial life.
"NASA will hold a news conference at 11 a. m. PST on Thursday, Dec. 2, to discuss an astrobiology finding that will impact the search for evidence of extraterrestrial life," NASA said in a statement on Wednesday. It described Astrobiology as a `study of the origin, evolution, distribution, and future of life in the universe'.
NASA has given only a general idea about what will be discussed in the press conference. However, the information provided was enough to cause mass speculation on the internet blogs.
The announcement has generated a lot of interest with many speculating that the space agency might unveil extraterrestrial life during the event. A more realistic expectation is that the announcement could be relating to lifeforms that live off of poisonous arsenic.
Phil Plait of Discover Magazine said that an announcement of the discovery of extraterrestrial life is unlikely. He also cited a June press release about the lack of acetlyne in Titan's atmosphere which had led of speculations of similar type.
