Sony has announced yesterday that it sold 4.1 million PlayStation Move units around the world since its launch in September.
The company said in a statement that the figure "not only shows clear success of the launch of the new motion-sensing controller, but also indicates positive momentum going into the holiday season and to the year 2011."
The company has however clarified that 4.1 million units were sold to retailers and not to consumers. It did not announce how many units have been sold to the consumers but said that retailers are picking up units based on their sales.
The announcement came soon after Microsoft announced that sold more than 2.5 million Kinect sensors since its launch earlier this month. The company said that its sales are to consumers.
Even as the devices have recorded good sales, they are still way behind motion-gaming leader, Nintendo, which has sold 65.3 million Wii Remotes to consumers in the US alone since its launch in November 2006. The sales include units bundled with the Wii and Wii Play and also controllers purchased separately.
