Chipmaker, Intel, which co-developed the MeeGo platform for mobile phones with Nokia, has announced that devices based on the platform are unlikely to be launched before the first half of 2011 despite rumors that Nokia is set to launch a MeeGo based smartphone soon.
MeeGo is an open source platform which combines elements of Nokia's Maemo and Intel's popular Moblin OS. The platform was launched a few months ago but the MrrGo based devices have not been launched due to lack of coordination. The delay in the launch f devices is not a good step for Nokia which is already struggling against rivals in the smartphone market.
The MeeGo 1.1 is set to release in October however there will not be any device available running on the platform. Intel had planned a 2011 release date however it appears to be unlikely that the handset maker will be able to complement it with devices of its own, in time for February’s Mobile Congress World 2011.
The companies are also planning set-top boxes and in-car-entertainment systems based on the platform and later tablets and netbooks by the end of 2011.
