Upcoming Korba plant of NTPC will be deferred

ntpcThe construction of main plant of the projected five hundred Mega Watt unit in the Korba power project of the National Thermal Power Company got delayed and has put a leading construction company under keen eyes of the NTPC.

The company got the civil work order for the main project from NTPC. The construction company has its head office in Kolkata. The company could not deliver the work within the deadline. The project has a costing f around seventy six crores of INR.

NTPC officials have followed up the work progress several times but still the construction firm is unable to meet the deadline as there are works pending in critical areas of civil works including Bunker balance and the left hand side mill works. The project got delayed by almost one year.

The five hundred Mega Watt units can’t get operational due to delay of development.

According to NTPC top official the firm has decided to distribute works to others offloading from the construction firm’s shoulders.

Chattishgarh is supposed to receive thirty five percent of power that would be generated in the Kobra power plant of five hundred mega watts. The official added that after the project is done it will be the first merchant power plant of NTPC.

In 1983 the Kobra project has commenced the start of its first unit. Under the project there are three two hundred mega watt unit and three five hundred mega watts units.

The lowest bidder for the seven thousand two hundred crores of rupees worth DVC-NTPC contract, turned out to be Bharat Forge- Alstom group. The contract is for supplying turbine generators in bulk. Behl and JSW-Toshiba were beaten in the competition of bidding and the contract was bagged by the Bharat Forge-Alstom group.
