Motorola open to sell devise on Microsoft’s OS despite suit

sanjay jhaMotorola co-Chief Executive Sanjay Jha has said that his company is open to selling devices running on Microsoft's new mobile OS despite that fact that the software giant has filed a law suit against the company for patent infringement.

Mr. Jha made the comments at the International Trade Commission and federal court in Seattle. Experts say that the move is aimed at hindering the growth of Google's Android platform which is used by Motorola on its smartphones.

The law suit from Microsoft alleges Motorola's Android-based phones violate nine Microsoft patents including synchronization of email, calendars and contacts, scheduling of meetings, and notifying applications of changes in signal strength and battery power.

Mr. Jha responded by saying that he isn't "overly unsettled" by the Microsoft lawsuits and some of them are part of business. He also said that the company will consider all options.

Mr. Jha has said earlier that he will use the OS in devices if the offer is compelling. The software giant is expected to release its new Windows Phone 7 OS next week; however Mr. Jha said that his engineers have not reviewed the platform yet.

Motorola has aligned itself with the Android platform and has produces some successful phones. As a result the company ahs strengthened its position in the market and has also helped Android gain popularity in the smartphones segment.

Motorola is trying to return its mobile business back to profitability in the forth quarter of the year. The company also aims to turnaround its division making Televisions. Mr. Jha will inherit more than 20,000 of Motorola's 40,000 patents.
