Opening ceremony of CWG witnessed twenty nine million viewersOn Sunday evening Doordarshan gathered a viewership of around twenty nine million people who sat and watched the grand opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games. Earlier many people complained about the ad infested and delayed telecast of the program.

As the program did not face any stiff competition from other event or news the flamboyant show with all its colorful helium balloons, lasers and million of schoolchildren walking the stage with full confidence, kept people glued to their TV sets.

As per the data of aMap an overnight audience measurement agency there were twenty nine million people who had watched the show on Sunday evening. Both Indian viewrrships for Beijing Olympics and Fifa world Cup of 2010 got beaten by the number of this viewership.

The CWG which suffered from ill fate all along needed a desperate break and the opening ceremony aptly gave that to the game. It was simply spectacular.

The television rating point, of Beijing Olympics, in comparison of this CWG was two decimal one four when seventeen million people watched the program. For Fifa World Cup 2010 the opening ceremony was watched by just one decimal nine million people.

The OC officials for the show received lots of complaints regarding the delay of the live telecast .Never the less the show got applauded by foreign press who all along have criticized the CWG management.

Sources stated that DD who got the approval to host the live telecast of the show exclusively could not live up to the expectation.

Director General Aruna Sharma of DD denied the charge of the delayed telecast. He said that the telecast got delayed by just few minutes.

She pointed out saying that deferred live can be said when a telecast is made two hours after the original show. They had to run advertisements for generating revenue. She also added that every right holding broadcaster was satisfied and happy with the production.
