Two executives of a roast meat company have been charged on Friday with helping their company evade tax by omitting sales of $3.5 million between the years 2005 and 2007.
Lew Eng Ho and Peh Tian Poh are accused of not declaring the taxman sales income of the company during the period.
The due have also been charged of making false entries willingly on 19 occasions by under-declaring supplies totaling $4.4 million between 2004 and 2007 in the returns of Xing Wang Ji Roasted Meat Wholesale and Lai Wang Roasted Meat Wholesale.
Lew is the director of both companies and Peh who worked as director of Xing Wang, is manager of Lai Wang.
Xing Wang Ji had changed its business name to Lai Wang in 2007. The court charged both the companies separately with tax evasion. The two executives and firms face a total of 66 charges.
Income tax evasion carries a maximum punishment of a fine of up to $10,000 and/or a jail term of up to three years plus treble the amount of tax undercharged. For GTS conviction, the maximum penalty is a fine of up to $10,000 and/or a jail term of up to seven years.
The cases were adjourned to October 29 and the executives are out on bail.
