In order to make its search engine more attractive and useful for searchers, Yahoo, starting Thursday, will incorporate Twitter updates in search results with the aim to provide the newest information on hot topics that are being searched more.
Although Google and Microsoft's Bing have been ahead of Yahoo in announcing and incorporating Twitter updates in search results, Yahoo has said that it will be the first search engine to actually display the "tweets" which come as search results on its main results page.
Describing the new service, Larry Cornett, Vice President of Consumer Products for Yahoo Search, said, "This lets the searcher flip though these different types of information to see everything around that topic that's happening right now".
The move has come at a crucial time for Yahoo when it is looking to win back its user base and improve its current market share. A recent comScore survey had revealed that while Google and Bing were increasing their market share steadily, Yahoo was actually slipping.
The move is being viewed as Yahoo's first step towards incorporation of social media content into its search results, and the company has been quick to assert that this is just the beginning and Yahoo users will soon be able to enjoy more services.
