On Wednesday Sony Corp. revealed that the early demand for its new electronic reader, the Daily Edition, has been much higher than anticipated, in lieu of the Holiday season, but shipments of the same can be delayed for a while.
As confirmed by a company spokesperson, Kyle Austin, Daily Edition, which has specifically been designed for newspaper viewing, will hit the markets a little later than expected, and the $399 e-book reader will be strictly sold on "first come, first serve" basis. "The number of people that signed up ... to be notified of the Daily's availability exceeded our expectations over the last few months and we expect high demand now that it's available", he shared.
Daily Edition, which is Sony's first wireless e-reader, was launched in August as a competition to Amazon's Kindle, which experts believe currently holds the highest e-book reader market share. Many analysts believe that electronic readers will be the holiday season's top-selling electronic devices.
A notice put up by the company on its website, www. sonystyle. com, states that pre-orders for Daily Edition are likely to ship from December 18 to January 8; no guarantee of a delivery date, however, has been given.
