For the month of October, Changi Airport reported its third consecutive growth in air traffic numbers, having handled 3.32 million passengers in the month for the current year, a 6% improvement from the number of travelers recorded October 2008.
The October hike has come after a year-on-year rise for the previous two months as well. While traveler numbers in August for the current year shot up by 0.5% compared to last year's August figure, the number for September saw a 6% increase.
The Changi Airport Group is crediting low budget airlines operating to Malaysian and Indonesian destinations as the main reason for the improved traveler numbers. On the cargo front too, the Airport posted a substantial 2% increase in total volumes as compared to last year.
All in all, for the month of October, Singapore's Changi handled as many as 20,985 flights, which is 6.7% more than flights recorded for October last year and an all time record high for the airport.
Currently, 85 airlines operate at Changi, connecting Singapore to 200 cities across 60 countries via 4,870 weekly flights.
