A recent study has revealed that men who are insomniac have a higher chance of dying prematurely as compared to those who get a regular good nights’ sleep.
Researchers from the Penn State College of Medicine, Pennsylvania, discovered that men suffering with a chronic condition of insomnia were four times more likely to die than those who have a healthy pattern of sleeping.
They also found that women, in comparison to men, have the ability to cope up with sleep deprivation without affecting their life expectancy.
As per the researchers, the study adds to increasing evidence that very less sleep can have long-term health implications.
Lead researcher Dr Alexandros Vgontzas of the Penn State College of Medicine said, “The primary finding of our study is that insomnia, the most common sleep disorder, is associated with significant mortality in men.”
The Daily Mail quoted Dr Vgontaz, “Until now, no study has demonstrated that insomnia is associated with mortality.”
Researchers are not sure why insomnia is more dangerous for men but said that most adults need between seven and eight hours of sleep every night.
