The wheels of a JetBlue airplane caught ablaze on Thursday due to the event of a a hard landing in Sacramento that caused minor injuries to 15 people and passengers were forced to exit the aircraft via down emergency slides.
Passenger Michelle McDuffie claimed that people onboard felt an impact when the plane landed at around 12:50 p. m. after a flight from Long Beach; however no one realized that emergency situation was unfolding until the crew yelled for everyone to slide on the inflatable slides and exit immediately.
McDuffie 33, of Mission Viejo, who witnessed the burning tires when she was on land, said that. She thought she should have taken her bags off. But at the end of the day was happy she wasn’t injured herself.
Airline spokeswoman Sharon Jones said, the plane seemed to face difficulties with its brakes, and four tires popped out as the plane rolled during touchdown.
According to the Sacramento Fire Department crews were reached the distressed airplane within four minutes of being dispatched and were accompanied to the runway by airport security.
According to a Sacramento Fire Department release, Sacramento County Airport System Aircraft Rescue Firefighters put off the fires on the tires of the aircraft, while Sacramento firefighters triaged aircraft passengers and crew.
Sacramento Fire Department Capt. Jonathan Burgess said that, everyone was "able to slide down that slide and walk over to our triage."
Passenger Shannon Ruppe of Paradise claimed that the task was demanding. She also said that a majority of the injuries she witnessed were sprained ankles and abrasions that were caused by the slides.
Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) spokesman Ian Gregor announced that the plane had not created any backlogs at the airport.
The event was being looked into by the (NTSB) National Transportation Safety Board.
