According to analysts from research firms Gartner and IDC, the manufacturers of ‘x86 server’ market such as Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Dell are recording stronger sales due to the resurgence in the segment.
The second quarter figures shows that the segment has experienced strong growth as business updated their servers as they were operating from long due servers due to cost saving measures during the economic slowdown.
Mosy server makers saw their revenues increase in the second quarter. IDC analysts expecte the growth in the segment to spread to Unix and mainframe platforms in the second half of 2010. It said that the over all revenue in server market grew 11 percent to $10.9 billion from period last year.
According to estimates form Gartner the revenues in the overall server market grew 14.3 percent to more than $11 billion while sales increased 27.1 percent. As per x86 server market, Gartner estimates show the revenues rose 37 percent, and shipments 28.9 percent while IDC calculated a revenue growth of 35.3 percent.
Gartner says that the server market segments are acting differently as x86 servers continues to grow while RISC, Itanium and mainframes server markets have stagnated for record a fall. Analysts from the IDC also hold similar view of the market.
Meanwhile, IDC expects the demand for non-x86 servers as some of the manufacturers have refreshed their offerings. The customers will be offered IBM's Power7 systems and Oracle's SPARC servers, which belonged to Sun Microsystems acquired by Oracle and HP’s new Integrity system powered by Intel's latest Itanium processor.
According to Gartner, Hp continues to be the leader in the server market in terms of revenues as well as shipments. HP has a market share of 32 percent, ahead of IBM with 27.7 percent and Dell at 16.3 percent followed by Oracle and Fujitsu.
