Compensation claims for air delay are suspended by the High Court

passengersThe compensation claims by the UK air passengers from the airlines for long delay of the flights has been suspended by the High Court of UK.

According to a ruling by the European Court of Justice, in last November the air passengers have the right to claim for compensation from the airlines not only for cancellation but also for long delay of the flights.

But after receiving request from the airlines of UK the High Court has referred the issue back to the ECJ for further hearing. That means the courts of UK will not hear long delay cases any more until the new ruling come from the ECJ.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), the regulatory body of the airlines is also enforcing the ECJ to rule that matter again. Until last November the air passengers of UK were awarded with cash compensations for their cancelled flights not for the delayed flights.

If the flights were delayed at that time the airlines were offering meals, two free phone calls and refreshments, but for a long delay of overnight the airlines used to offer hotel accommodation and free transport to and from the hotel and airport.
