Verizon Communications is testing grounds for its 1Gbps FiOS broadband connection.
The company claims that to have tested the service with an extant FiOS customer base service in Taunton on a local server and also for a remotely based server that has been positioned 400 miles away.
US broadband and mobile services provider, Verizon has claimed that the downloading speed for the local server was shown to be 925Mbps while the remote server registered a speed of 800Mbps.
The director of Verizon's technology organization, Vincent O'Byrne stated: "This trial demonstrated that the current architecture has sufficient headroom to allow for a progressive increase in capacity as needed by our residential and business customers on our current GPON platform."
The company is in no mood to release the service in the recent future. It presently offers a maximum speed of 50 Mbps to customers, and aims to bring out a 100 Mbps connection.
Verizon also claims that at the moment there is no need for a high speed connection in the market.
