Oracle has decided to put a tab on further support and development of OpenSolaris project in regard to push users in the direction of commercial Solaris 11.
The internal memo released for the employees stated that the company is no mood to offer the open source Solaris development code to developers but instead come up with an open platform which will be on display.
The leaked memo further added that the shutting down of the open source version Oracle will be able to commercially build the awareness of the enterprise platform.
The company states: "The growth opportunity for Solaris has never been greater. As one example, Solaris is used by about 40% of Oracle's enterprise customers, which means we have a 60% growth opportunity in our top customers alone."
The memo includes the statements of senior Oracle executives Mike Shapiro, Bill Nesheim and Chris Armes who claimed that the firm will continue to surge until it commits itself to an open source community.
