Oil remnants spread east on sea bed according to researchers

gulfAccording to reports submitted by researchers on Monday, the BP oil spill might have settled on the sea bed of Gulf of Mexico. According to them the oil had spread further east and can affect the marine life with its toxicity.

The preliminary findings of a new study of the gulf indicated that oil might have deposited on the ocean bed pushed by dispersants. The oil has accumulated in the bottom of a canyon situated below the sea which is forty miles from Florida Panhandle.

Researchers stated that marine life responded to the toxic crude in a strong manner.

The oil is going down from the surface to the water deep down pushed by dispersants where it has the capacity of affecting plankton and other organisms, as stated by a marine biologist of USF, John Paul.

Reports of the latest survey will be released on Tuesday but the gist of the preliminary findings has been obtained by CNN on Monday night. The tests that have been performed offshore pointed out that the oil samples matched the oil spill of Deepwater Horizon.

Traces of that oil have gone as far as the DeSoto Canyon, located east of the broken well, on the sea bed. The canyon rooms many commercial fishes’ reproduction grounds .According to the report the canyon is the easternmost part where the oil has been found on the ocean bed.

The oil has not draped the sea bed but is found in small droplets scattered unevenly. David Hollander, a chemical oceanographer from USF stated that a constellation of littlie dots could be detected by ultraviolet light.

According to John Paul the oil may resurface later. The oil can be eaten by marine organisms which can affect the whole food chain as stated by Hollander. He added the oil droplets can be seen but they are transparent which can be mistaken as food by small fishes and can be consumed.
