The oil giant BP has decided to pay 50.6 million dollars fine for the explosion at the Texas plant in the year 2005. The explosion of 2005 at the Texas refinery plant had killed 15 people and created questions over the safety measures of BP at its plants.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) of US has said that that explosion had reflected the carelessness of the firm BP for the safety at its workplaces.
On the other hand, the British firm has said that it had taken many steps to increase the safety measures at the plant.
The OSHA has been trying to collect another 30 million dollars fine from the company. This has been the biggest fine amount collected by the OSHA, which is a part of the US Labour Department. The secretary of Labour, Hilda Solis has said that their main aim is to ensure safety for the workers working at the refinery and they want the security upgrades at the plants as soon as possible.
In a response the oil giant has said the refinery has taken various steps to enhance the safety of workers and spent 500 million dollars for that.
