BSkyB has released the legal fight against registration of the trademark Skype claiming it to be akin to its own brand, Sky.
The firm is half owned by Rupert Murdoch's News Corp, BSkyB which currently seeks to sought the name Skype, in the Europe, India, Norway and Brazil.
Skype claims of receiving a clearance that has come from all regulators other than EU.
The firm is opting to look for a trademark of the VoIP telephony service provider, claiming that the firm owns the first three letters of Skype, a thing which Sky claims to be a result that creates a confusion bound amidst two brands and at the same time amongst global consumers, the Telegraph stated.
The alleged dispute has continued for almost five years but it came into light soon after Skype revealed details of the same in its 250 page S-1 document.
A representative for BSkyB stated: "Sky is involved in a long-running dispute with Skype in relation to several trade mark applications filed by Skype, including, but not limited to, television-related goods and services."
