Walt Disney has profited in its third quarters

walt-disneyWalt Disney Co’s third quarter bottom line has surged up due to world cup soccer coverage by ESPN and good performance of its film Toy story 3 in the box office.  

The media major had recorded a growth of forty percent in its earnings taking the amount to one decimal three billion dollars from nine hundred and fifty four million dollars of the year earlier.  

In the three month period that ended on July 3 the company had collected revenue amounting to ten billion dollars. It saw a jump of sixteen percent from the previous year.

The summer performance of the film studio had been highlighted by the company’s Chief Executive, Mr. Robert A. Iger. He pointed out that Walt Disney Co. had released three of the top five films worldwide.

The films were “Toy Story 3” Walt Disney’s “Alice in Wonderland” and “Iron Man 2” of Marvel Entertainment.  

According to him all the three movies brought them financial successes but they also have triggered other businesses of the company like sales of merchandising items.   

Iger added that merchandise sales of Toy Story had gained new heights with customers all over the world buying well designed products, the company had made available all over the world.  

The trend is good for the future release of Pixar’s feature film “Cars 2” which will be out in the theaters in the month of June 2011.  

Walt Disney Co had its operating income of one hundred and twenty three million dollars compared to the loss of twelve million dollars one year earlier. It saw a rise of thirty percent in its revenue taking the amount to one decimal six billion dollars.  

Disney reported that two of its projects had to be written off though it never mentioned the names of those films nor did the company stated the amount of loss.  

Disney in its third quarter had released the high budget film “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time” which sold in the domestic market worth ninety million bur overseas business for the film was two hundred and thirty eight million dollars.
