South Korean electronics giant, Samsung is a well known brand in India and has been for some time because of a range of products it offers in the country. The company also operates a software operations centre in Bangalore which is helping the firm strengthen its position in the global market.
Samsung India Software Operations started was started 14 years ago and become more and more significance for the company. The centre houses lot of sensitive information, future plans, and good talent giving its performance a strong support.
The fact that about one third of the new mobile OS, Bada and products were developed in the country outlines its importance for the company. The teams worked on Android and Linux platforms, browsers and wireless communication protocols.
The cost saving centre of the late nineties has transformed itself into a robust research centre for new products and services from the company. The centre is to become even more important as the mobile industry move from being handset centric to service focused.
The presence of various manufacturers has put a pressure on prices and margins appear to be declining. The average selling price for mobile handset makers is also falling. Samsung has said that the prices of devices are falling because of stronger competition.
The handset makers are now focusing on services associated with the handset. They create apps and other related services to improve margins and increase sales.
