PlayStation 3 Owners Can now Stream Netflix Movies

Sony Corp. and Netflix have joined hands and are all set to announce a deal on Monday, after which PlayStation 3 owners will be able to stream movies, sitcoms and other live media offered by Netflix. Starting next month, owners of Sony's popular gaming console, PS3, will be able to play movies and sitcoms on it for free. The offer is for Netflix subscribers who have a subscription that costs in excess of $9 per month.

Netflix, which has always been very open of its plans of partnering with platforms that have large customer bases, currently offers over 17,000 movies for MAC and PC users. Also, the service runs on various other platforms including, but not limited to, the Roku digitasl video player, TiVo and LG and Samsung connected devices.

Stats report that, till date, over 9 million PlayStation 3 units have been sold in America, and with the latest deal, Netflix hopes to reach out to more and more customers. Currently, Netflix streaming is also supported by Microsoft's X-Box 360. Post the Sony deal, Nintendo's Wii will remain as the only gaming console which Netflix has not partnered with yet.
