Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) recently announced a new range of desktop microprocessors, which include the firm's must anticipated first ever Athlon Triple-core Processors.

Four Athlon II X3 triple-core processors were launched by AMD as a part of the new line-up that has come amidst the dual-core Athlon II X2 and quad-core Athlon II X4 processors.

Promising to add responsiveness to PCs and headroom to run additional programs, the chips are designed to go into desktops and PC form factors, including all-in-one small desktops. AMD reported that users will be able to see 3D graphics on PCs powered by the company's new processors.

AMD's brand new range of triple-core chips are made using the latest 45-nanometer manufacturing process and the chips are smaller, and offer better performance, according to a company spokesperson. The newly unveiled Athlon line includes three-core CPUs and two energy-efficient 45-watt CPUs intended for mainstream minitowers, small-form-factor PCs and all-in-one systems.
