WiMAX in east Malaysia to be launched by Packet One
Chief executive officer Michael Lai

In the first quarter of next year the Packet One Networks mulls to commence  WiMAX services in Sabah and Sarawak, after permission were given, the credit of which goes to the success of meeting the targeted 25% population coverage in Peninsular Malaysia.

Yesterday, Chief executive officer Michael Lai said in a statement on Bursa Malaysia told, "Residents in Kuching, Miri, Bintulu, Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan and Tawau will be able to enjoy the freedom of P1W1MAX broadband as early as in the second quarter."

Penetration potential is vast as the rates of household broadband penetration were only 13.6% in Sarawak and 9.5% in Sabah as at end of last year.

P1 will give a healthy participation to east Malaysia's economy, specially within the small and medium companies and local state industries such as tourism.
