Scientists from Brazil have been able to discover a microbe christened as 'Conan the Bacterium' that is so tough that it can possibly travel space.
This discovery has led the team of researchers to perceive that organisms such as this one might have been the cause of origin of life on this planet, the Earth.
Deinococcus radiodurans, the bug in the limelight was subjected to strong radiation waves, extremely cold conditions and a vacuum chamber, all designed in a way to replicate the conditions that are found on meteorites and other rocks in space.
The D. radiodurans colonies were capable of withstanding such conditions in which other components would fail to endure. After surviving those conditions, the colonies regained its normality.
Researchers after seeing the results of the experiment are of the suggestion that innate powers in such bugs make them the rightful and potent candidate for multiplying life between various planets that exist in the solar system.
The most probable elucidation for the bug's toughness is that each and every element has four to ten replicas of its genome, instead of the standard one replica.
Its repair system is so effectual that even after its DNA was ripped off, fragments could easily be again put together.
